All clear
Today I had my final checkup at Wellington hospital, completing five years since diagnosis and treatment. I’ve now been given the all-clear from cancer, and am now officially regarded as cured.
Along the way, I’ve had exceptional help from an exceptional medical team. I’ve been lucky, but it’s their hard and skilful work that has made my luck.
It’s been a challenging experience, with plenty of hard times, plenty of good times, and occasionally, sad times. I took time today to remember several very good friends who were diagnosed in the time I was, but didn’t make it this far. I know that if they were here today, they would want me to celebrate the occasion, happily – so I did just that, marking the milestone very happily with a cup of tea, and a pie from Trisha’s. To cap the day off, tonight I’m off to the pub for a celebratory Guinness….
Finally, to round off the 5 years, I’m putting on a show at the Wellington City Gallery…. so if you’re in Wellington on November 5th, come and join me!
