Eat, sleep and run
My post-radiation healing has been coming along nicely.
In the last week or so I've started eating again, getting up to at least a couple of small sloppy meals per day (Soup is off the menu; it's too hot to handle. But I can handle "warm" foods).
Eating more food has meant my weight started returning up, to the point where I could ditch the overnight Jake-feeding through my peg. Which in turn enables a much, much better night's sleep.
And all of that combined has given me a lot more energy to spend on launching myself off the couch, out the door and out & about. I feel like I've been hibernating for the winter. Of course, I've been met with the Wellington version of Spring, which is less of the frolicking lambs and more of the rollicking gales. Bracing.
Bouyed by new levels of food, weight, sleep and general energy I decided I was ready to go for a run. (Gastro surgeon Nick B had said that the stomach peg should be ok for running, and all of my all-star medical team have encouraged light exercise when possible, so I was keen to try it out as soon as I had the energy).
So I strapped down Jake as securely as possible and stuttered along a 3.2k run along the bay, passed by power-walkers and the occasional pram-pusher. I'm not quite ready to tackle the world's fastest jogger, but it feels good to take the first step...
