Fifth year celebration: From Hospital To The Summit
October 12, 2014
It’s coming up to the end of five years since my cancer treatment, and to what I hope will be my final checkup as an outpatient. Rather than throw a party, I’m putting on a show…
Over the past few years I’ve thought about the idea of a celebration party, if the day to celebrate came around. In the end, the way I wanted mark it was with a sense of thanks to those who’ve helped and with a sense of adventure. So, my Fuji fundraiser project was born.
The first part of the project was to run to the summit of Mt Fuji, and raise awareness for Wellington’s Gillies McIndoe Research Institute. The second part of the project is to put on a fundraiser night for the GMRI, on November 5th in Wellington.
I’ll be telling the story of my journey since treatment, through to the Fuji summit race. Also presenting will be Dr Swee Tan, head of my medical dream team for the past 5 years, and founder of the GMRI. Swee will be talking about the award-winning cancer research that the GMRI is pioneering.
So if you’re in Wellington, come along to see the show!
